Natural Gas vs. Propane
Understand fuel type and conversion planning.
We diagnose gas, electric, and dual-fuel ovens, ranges, and cooktops, with particular experience in premium cooking appliances.
The cause can be a power-supply problem, a heating element, a temperature sensor, an igniter or ignition system, or a control fault. On premium cooking appliances, the right diagnosis depends on the design and the symptoms.
Get to a safe place, avoid anything that could spark, then call 911 or your gas utility. Do not use our website or service-request form to report a suspected leak.
Never take a gas valve apart, bypass an ignition part, or modify a burner. Do not keep trying to light a burner that is releasing gas without igniting. If a gas oven lights late, bangs, or repeatedly fails to light, stop using it and call for service. If there is a grease fire, never throw water on it; if it is small, turn off the heat and cover the pan with a metal lid, and if it is not controlled right away, get out and call 911. Never use a gas oven or cooktop to heat the home.
Call if the oven will not heat, temperature is inaccurate, a burner keeps clicking, a cooktop zone will not work, an error code persists, or heating is intermittent. Tell us whether the appliance is gas, electric, or dual-fuel and whether one function or the whole appliance is affected. Coastal air can also corrode outdoor cooking equipment, so mention it if the problem involves a grill.

A 36-inch professional range and a home range can need very different diagnostics and parts. Gas and electric models are diagnosed differently.
Turn it off. If you smell gas, leave immediately and call 911 or your gas utility. Otherwise, call us and do not keep trying to light it.
