Runs but does not heat
Door switches, the magnetron, or high-voltage parts are the usual causes. See microwave not heating.
We repair built-in and over-the-range microwaves, including premium models. Because microwave repairs involve high voltage, diagnosis and repair should be done by a trained technician.

Stop using the microwave. Damaged interior surfaces, a waveguide cover problem, or metal in the cavity can cause arcing.
Over-the-range models also have a vent fan and light. A noisy fan, a dead light, or a blank display each has its own diagnostic path.
A worn latch or switch can keep the microwave from starting. Do not use a microwave whose door is damaged.
Built-in, drawer, and over-the-range models cost more to replace and often involve cabinetry or venting, so repair is frequently worthwhile. For an inexpensive countertop microwave, replacement may cost less than the repair. We will tell you plainly after the diagnosis. Read our repair or replace guide for more.
Do not open a microwave. The high-voltage capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even when the unit is unplugged. Leave door switch, magnetron, and high-voltage repairs to a trained technician.
