Gas Line for a Tankless Water Heater in Panama City & NW Florida

A tankless water heater can need a larger gas line than the tank heater it replaces. Appliance Doctor's gas team installs and upgrades the gas piping for tankless water heaters across Panama City and Northwest Florida.

Why it matters

The gas line is what makes a tankless heater work

Tankless water heaters heat water on demand, so they need a lot of gas at the moment you open a hot tap. If the pipe is too small, too long, or fed by an undersized meter, regulator, or tank, the unit can fail to ignite or shut down, and the water runs cold.

Before we recommend a plan, we compare the unit's gas demand with the existing piping and the capacity of your meter or propane tank. Then we size and run the line to match.

What we check

What goes into a tankless gas line

Gas demand and line size

We match pipe size and length to the unit's gas input so it gets the supply it needs.

Natural gas or propane

The unit, the regulator, and the supply must all agree on the fuel. See natural gas vs. propane.

Shutoff and connection

A proper shutoff, a correct connection to the unit, and a leak check are part of the job.

Questions

Tankless gas line questions

Do I need a bigger gas line for a tankless water heater?

Often, yes. A tankless unit can draw much more gas at once than a tank water heater, so the pipe size, length, and the meter or tank capacity all matter. We check the unit against the existing piping before recommending a plan.

Can a tankless water heater run on propane?

Yes, if the unit and the gas supply are set up for propane. Tell us the fuel type. See our natural gas vs. propane guide and propane tank installation.

Do you install the water heater itself?

Our work focuses on the gas piping. We coordinate with your plumber or water heater installer for the unit, venting, and water connections. Call us to confirm what we will handle on your project.

Is a permit or inspection required?

Requirements vary by location and project. Every project is checked for scope, code rules, and schedule, and we tell you what to expect.
